BAHAMAS: SHARKS KEEP ECOSYSTEMS HEALTHY

Shark populations are declining around the globe. The high demand for shark fins, meat, liver oil has driven numerous shark populations to the brink of extinction.

Sharks play a very important role in maintaining the health of the ecosystem. Sharks are at the top of the food chain and thus regulate the abundance and biodiversity below them.

We can help sharks continue enriching the oceans. How? Do not buy anything that contains shark products at the supermarkets, beauty shops, and drug stores.

SHARK SANCTUARIES: GOOD NEWS FOR THESE MAGNIFICENT CREATURES

The human tongue is considered the most dangerous weapon. A word said at the wrong time for the wrong reason at the wrong place can start a war. And it has happened many a times in the past. History books attest to that.

Being so, it is easy to understand why the tongue is now having a tremendous negative impact on the world´s shark populations.

The tongue is behind the killing 73 million shark per year. Asian´s taste for shark fin soup is costing dear to these fish.

To protect the sharks, the Pew Environment Group has mounted a worldwide campaign to save them. So far there have been some successes. Recently, Palau decided to create a sanctuary for sharks. Then other Pacific nations did the same. And this is really good news indeed!
