More than 8.000 pesticides are used in Australia and out of these there are 80 which have already been prohibited in other countries, for example, in the European Union, according to Immig (2010).
These chemicals have a wide variety of uses, from home gardens and agriculture to livestock and stored crops.
As the name "pesticides" implies, these chemical substances have been designed to kill pests that damage plants and animals of economic interest of humans.
Therefore, all pesticides have to be handle with caution. And some of them are extremely dangerous, known to be highly toxic, capable of causing cancer and disrupting our endocrine and immune systems.
Moreover, they are amongst the worst environmental contaminants, polluting water, air and soil.
